Will There Be a Second Big Bang?

What if the Big Bang wasn’t the beginning of the universe, but rather the first of many explosions that will happen in the future? Astronomers are now looking into crazy ideas about how the universe could break, tear, or even quantum-flip into a whole new reality in the far future, starting a second Big Bang. We might already be able to see proof of this, from the way space-time waves to the way the cosmic microwave background hides the marks of past cycles. And if these ideas are true, the next big cosmic event might not be the end, but the start of a whole new world.
