Unitree Robotics just secured a massive $900M IPO, and with DeepSeek backing their new $4,290 humanoid robot, the AI race has officially escalated.
Unitree Robotics has officially opened subscriptions for its IPO on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s Star Market, aiming to raise approximately $900 million. Instead of merely funding impressive tech demonstrations, the company plans to use this massive influx of capital to establish a major intelligent manufacturing base, develop better robot bodies, and launch new products. Investor demand has been staggering; AI company DeepSeek has stepped in as a strategic investor, and retail demand was reportedly oversubscribed by more than 8000 times.
The financial frenzy is heavily driven by Unitree’s aggressive pivot toward humanoids, highlighted by a new modular humanoid robot starting at a surprisingly low $4,290. This strategy is already generating real revenue, with the company selling over 5,600 humanoid robots between 2023 and 2025. However, dominating the robotics space comes with severe costs and risks. While revenue soared in Q1 2026, profits actually fell by 52.6% due to the immense costs of scaling hardware. Furthermore, with the United States accounting for 13.3% of their revenue last year, Unitree faces looming challenges from escalating US-China trade restrictions and global technology controls.
