The Future of Humanoid Robotics | Jonathan Hurst | TEDxPortland

NOTE FROM TED: TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdf

Robots are entering a new era, powered not just by machinery, but by embodied AI that allows them to perceive, learn, move, and work in human spaces. In this talk Jonathan Hurst, Chief Robot Officer and co-founder of Agility Robotics and Professor and co-founder of the Oregon State University Robotics Institute, explains why humanoid robots will reshape labor, expand human capability, and eventually become tireless partners in solving some of humanity’s biggest challenges.

We could not do this without community support. With special thanks to the University of Oregon for their presenting partnership. The world-class stage production by Portland Center Stage at The Armory. The incredible legacy bound Event Book provided by Premier Press. Lastly, the brand identity and creative digital craft provided by our Agency of Record – This. All of our Partners, Films, Community Collaborations and event history can be found at TEDxPortland.com. Jonathan Hurst is Chief Robot Officer and co-founder of Agility Robotics, and Professor and co-founder of the Oregon State University Robotics Institute. He holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering and an M.S. and Ph.D. in robotics, all from Carnegie Mellon University.

Jonathan works towards robot hardware and control approaches that achieve the compliance, dexterity, and mobility we see all around us in the animal world.

His work enables robots to do useful work in human environments, generating greater productivity across the economy, and improving quality of life for all. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
