I Gave 4 AI Agents One Evening to Build a Startup (Hyperagent)

Can one person and four AI agents really build a startup? I tested the one-person billion-dollar company claim using Hyperagent, and my AI agent team killed two ideas before shipping one live.

Sam Altman says there’s a betting pool on the first year a one-person billion-dollar company appears. Howie Liu, the founder of Airtable and Hyperagent, wants to see $100M startups with fewer than five people. So instead of debating it, I built a four-agent team in Hyperagent and handed it the hardest parts of launching a startup: finding an idea, validating it, building it, and launching it.

Nova is the team lead. It scans GitHub and Product Hunt for real signals and hands every idea to Sage. Sage is the skeptic: its only job is idea validation, and it’s allowed to say no. It did, twice. Once an idea finally passed, Forge built a working MVP with a live demo and a sandbox playground, and Echo created the landing page plus launch drafts for X, Hacker News and Reddit.

You’ll see the full Hyperagent setup (building the lead agent, chaining the specialists, wiring the delegation, and turning on Live mode), all three runs, the two no-go verdicts and why Sage rejected them, and the one idea that shipped. This isn’t a scripted demo. It’s an honest test of whether an AI agent team can do the work of a startup in one evening, with one human in the loop.

At the end I give my honest verdict on whether Sam Altman is right.
